Turnpike in far northeastern Oklahoma, near the Craig-Ottawa County line. Trooper
Grundy effected a traffic stop of a vehicle for a burned out headlamp.
As Trooper Grundy exited his unit and walked up to the vehicle to write down its tag
number, he was struck by a pickup truck driven by 82 year-old James A. Grundy of
Joplin Missouri (no relation to the Trooper). The force of the impact knocked him
into the vehicle he had stopped.
Trooper Grundy was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.
