Trooper Long worked at Patrol headquarters until approximately 1:30 a.m. on July 12, 1942. As Long passed a park at Northwest 22nd and Broadway, Oklahoma City, he heard screams from an eighteen year-old girl who was being beaten by a man who had followed and attacked her. When Long went to her aid the attacker fired four shots with one hitting Long in the chest. The murderer has never been apprehended. |
